On 27th March the safeguarding adult boards from Southend, Essex and Thurrock held a joint conference in Basildon exploring adult safeguarding and associated risk issues.
250 attendees benefited from the expertise of a range of experts including the domestic abuse expertise of Laura Richards, and the legal expertise of Alex Ruck Keen, Belinda Schwehr and Tim Spencer-Lane. Those in attendance also witnessed a poignant presentation from Terry Bryan – the whistleblower and previous manager at Winterbourne View Care Home.
Feedback from the event suggests that attendees found it extremely useful; and the adult safeguarding boards are planning to hold the next joint safeguarding conference in the region of September 2013. Further details will follow in due course.
