Safeguarding Adults Project - Funding available for local projects
A further £30,000 funding has been made available for projects during the 2014/15 financial year. This funding comes out of the Safeguarding Adults Project (SAP) which is based on a partnership project led by the Essex Safeguarding Adults Board (ESAB) and Castle Point Association of Voluntary Services (CAVS) who undertook a survey during 2012 asking how safe vulnerable people feel in Essex.

During 2013/14, the Safeguarding Adults Project(SAP) panel approved a number of projects such as:
• The Keep Safe project in Braintree in October 13 - this project orginally aimed at vulnerable young people with learning disabilities was extended to include older vulnerable adults. The project aims to provide safe places around the town where vulnerable adults can go ask for help if they require assistance.
• Human Library event that took place in September 2013 - the aim of this project was to overcome some of the barriers which exist in Safeguarding in regards to reaching/engaging with Black and Minority Ethnic (BEM) groups. The project also aimed to increase contact and information exchange between BEM groups and Safeguarding. A Human Library was chosen as a way of engaging people on a one to one basis to challenge both practitioners and public perceptions and assumptions of each other. All of the Human books were people from ethnic minority backgrounds and had experience of safeguarding work. A human book is someone with experience in safeguarding cases that can advise and give help to others who may be in need.
These projects along with the other projects that took place where designed to improve the lives of vulnerable adults in the county.
