Be Safer Commendation From Nick Hurd, Minister For Civil Society

Nick Hurd, Minister For Civil Society

Having already received two national awards during 2012, the work of the Be Safer Project has now received commendation from Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society.

In an open letter to Castle Point Association of Voluntary Services, Mr Hurd congratulated the organisation on receiving the two awards for the Be Safer Project and for the work that is being achieved in the community.

Recognition at this level is something that everybody involved with the projects can be very proud of. The success of projects under the umbrella of Be Safer would not have been possible without the hard work of all at Castle Point Association of Voluntary Services.

The Be Safer Project has now been running since April 2010. The project itself is a community strand of a wider project run by Essex County Council called Achieving Choice and Control. Working closely with Essex County Council, Adult Health and Social Care, the Be Safer Project works across Essex, with a focused remit of building community resource opportunities for adults with a learning disability to feel and keep safer in the community and at home.

Throughout the project Katharine Washbrook and Ann-Marie Fordham have established four regional groups across the county in West, North East, Mid and South Essex. Each group is able to access some funding in order to implement the projects that they want to see happen in their area, or across the county.

More information about Be Safer can be found here.

The Be Safer project also has its own Easy Read website for people with a learning disability.
